From Namibia to Minnesota: East Grand Forks stop a winter tradition for safari operators
Namibia is one of the few countries where the game belongs to the landowner and not to the public, as it does in North America. Chris and Anita Boshoff's game ranch in north-central Namibia covers 26,000 acres, and hunters have the opportunity to target such species as wildebeest, zebra, springbok, warthog, hartebeest, gemsbok, kudu, impala and giraffe.

DEVILS LAKE: From boredom to kaboom!
Devils Lake excursion offers chance to sight-fish for northern pike and sample the big lake’s jumbo perch
This wasn’t to be your typical pike fishing excursion, though; the plan was to “sight fish” for pike through a 2x3-foot hole in the ice inside a 6x8-foot pop-up fish house that blocked out the light. Think of it as darkhouse spearing — without the spear.

DOUG LEIER: Fewer deer may be misleading
Animals may be more spread out in area
As a biologist, I deal with aspects of fish and wildlife behavior on a routine basis. Hardly a week goes by that I don’t get at least one phone call or email from someone who witnessed an odd, strange or erratic animal behavior, or saw something in an unusual location. After almost two decades in the field, I have learned to “never say never.” Even if I get a call on a pink flamingo in a stormwater retention pond, my initial response would be “could be, you just never know.”
