Officials are investigating the death of a Minnesota Marine found dead in his barracks in North Carolina during an afternoon inspection. The Marine Corps said in a news release Friday that Lance Cpl. Daniel W. Sweeney, 20, Coon Rapids, Minn., died Wednesday. The cause of death was still under investigation.

Georgian luger dies after crash during training for Olympics

A men’s Olympic luger from the country of Georgia died today after a high-speed crash on a track that is the world’s fastest and has raised safety concerns among competitors. IOC president Jacques Rogge said the death hours before the opening ceremony “clearly casts a shadow over these games.”
