Oilfield services company Baker Hughes Inc. says the number of rigs actively exploring for oil and natural gas in the U.S. remains unchanged this week, at 1,769. Of the major oil- and gas-producing states, North Dakota and Wyoming each gained three rigs and Alaska gained one.

A man working for the U.S. Forest Service has been killed by a falling tree in northeastern Minnesota. Lake County sheriff's officials say the 59-year-old Wayzata man was cutting down trees near Ely Thursday afternoon when he wasn't able to get out of the way of a falling tree.
