Cell phone ban? Skeptical lawmakers say states unlikely to heed NTSB call
Federal transportation officials are citing that accident in pushing for states to enact an all-out ban on cellphone use by drivers, restricting the use even of hands-free devices. But spurring lawmakers to take up the cause may be difficult. Skeptical lawmakers give the proposal little chance at succeeding in state capitols around the country, and many aren't planning on introducing ban bills.

'Non-survivable injury': IndyCar concludes Wheldon killed when head hit Las Vegas track fencing poll
IndyCar officials don't believe the construction of the fence at Las Vegas Motor Speedway played a role in the death of two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Dan Wheldon. Instead, the larger factor was the wide grooves at the speedway that gave drivers a "limitless racing surface."

Minnesota woman finds comfort in therapy dog
Before Casey came along, Pam Hermann wasn’t a fan of public places. A simple grocery store visit — with people rushing past, loud noises and unfamiliar objects in her way — could induce panic. But now, Hermann, who is blind and has developmental disabilities, can’t wait to cruise the aisles, running her hands over hair products and hardware, accompanied by her companion.

Our Opinion: Don’t take the ‘family’ out of family farms
The Labor Department should drop its plan to restrict the work young people can do on a farm.
Seven hundred children injured a day. More than 250,000 children injured a year. And 2,000 children killed a year. That’s the toll car accidents take on America’s youth. And yet, we accept it. Why? Because the benefits outweigh the costs. Cars mean so much and are so vital to modern life that we accept the risks. Farm families should be allowed to do the same.
