Medicare's bill for artificial feet is questioned
It doesn't compute: Medicare's bill for artificial feet has jumped by more than half, although foot and leg amputations due to diabetes continue to decline dramatically. Medicare paid $94 million for artificial feet in 2010, according to research conducted for The Associated Press. That was nearly $35 million more than in 2005, even though in 2010, Medicare covered about 1,900 fewer such prostheses. It works out to a 58 percent cost increase over five years.

Every week, a group of largely unemployed military veterans meets at a Minnesota Workforce Center to practice job interviewing. IN THE SPIRIT: Happy birthday, George and Abe
My love for this country took root at an early age. It began at home and blossomed in elementary school. What stands out more than all else are the lifelike portraits of Presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln which hung on a wall in the first grade room. Back then I knew, by the stories I learned, that these men were to be revered.

RYAN BAKKEN: And now, for the CliffNotes of news ....
For column ideas, my first stop is the newspaper. Sometimes, an idea is abandoned because it will take more space than what is allotted. More often, the reverse is true. I usually don’t have enough fodder on any one topic. I’m the CliffNotes of columnists.
