Mickey L. Thompson age 83 of East Grand Forks, MN, passed away on Wednesday, June 5th, 2013 at the Villa St. Vincent in Crookston, MN

Mickey Lincoln Thompson was born on December 18, 1929 in Long Prairie, MN the son of John D. and Carrie M. (Paulson) Thompson. Mickey grew up in the Bigwoods, MN area where he attended rural Bigwoods School. In 1951 he joined the United States Army and served his country until 1953. On December 9, 1957 he was united in marriage to Evelyn Campbell in Warren, MN. They lived in East Grand Forks, MN their entire married life. Mickey worked for Howard Brothers Farms and Custom Combining of Warren. He also worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad. Upon his retirement from Burlington Northern Railroad in 1994, he operated a hobby farm near Bigwoods, MN at the site of the Old Bigwoods Landing.

Vendell A. Holmgren
Vendell A. Holmgren, 97, of Hallock, Minnesota passed away at Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center in Hallock early Wednesday morning, June 5, 2013. Vendell was born August 7, 1915 in Hazelton Township of Kittson County to Andrew and Anna (Swedberg) Holmgren.

After graduating from high school, Vendell went on to attend Moorhead State Teachers where he received his teaching certificate. On December 3, 1938 he was united in marriage to Orpha M. Harper in the Lutheran parsonage at Hallock. Vendell taught in the Hill Townhsip school for one year and in the Donaldson school for 14 years before becoming the Register of Deeds in Kittson County. He retired after 35 years of service. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church; and served as a Boy Scout leader for many years, helping seven members become Eagle Scouts. Vendell enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and was very active in the community.
