Conrad Hapka Sr., 79, of rural Argyle, MN, passed away on Wednesday morning, February 6, 2013 at the Villa St. Vincent in Crookston, MN.
Conrad Paul Hapka was born on February 7, 1933 on the family farm near Argyle, the son of Jacob and Julia (Staloch) Hapka. He attended country school and the Crookston AC. After his schooling, he returned to the family farm. Conrad was in the US Army from 1957 - 1958 and was stationed in Germany. On October 22, 1958, he married Theresa Perkerewicz at St. Stanislaus Church in Warsaw, ND. They made their home on the Hapka family farm northeast of Argyle where he was a lifelong potato farmer.

Irvin D. Nelson
Irvin D. Nelson, age 70 of Edinburg, ND passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at his home in Edinburg.
Irvin D. Nelson was born October 2, 1942 in Grafton, ND the son of the late Thelmer “Bill” and Violet (Hallgrimson) Nelson. He attended elementary school in Union, ND and graduated from Milton High School in 1960. Irvin was united in marriage to Doreen Einarson on December 27, 1963 in Mountain, ND. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 2, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at the United Lutheran Church, Cavalier. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 1st from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the church. Burial in the Bruce Cemetery, Neche, ND.
Alton was born March 26, 1930, near Neche to Thomas and Ruby (Inglis) Horsley. He grew up in the Neche area where he attended school and also attended the Walsh County Agricultural School. Alton served in the U.S. Navy. After his discharge from the service he returned to the Neche area where he farmed. In 1959, he married Joyce Douville and they had three children. Delbert preceded her in death on September 30, 1974. Mildred married Lawrence Dargus on November 19, 1977 in Augustana Lutheran Church. Lawrence preceded her in death on September 5, 2009. She was a life member of Augustana Lutheran Church, and was the oldest living baptized member of the congregation. Also, she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She enjoyed socializing with family and friends and reminiscing about her Swedish heritage.

Carlton J. Hendrickson, 87, of Grand Forks, ND passed away Saturday, January 19, 2013 in Altru Hospital in Grand Forks.
Carlton Jarlin Hendrickson was born July 26, 1925 in Mekinock, ND the son of Theodore and Cora (Burtness) Hendrickson. He was raised on the family farm near Mekinock He entered the United States Army on April 14, 1945 at Fort Snelling, MN. During World War II, he served as a military policeman at Pearl Harbor and in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged from military service on December 7, 1946 at Fort Lewis, WA. He returned to Grand Forks and was employed at Eddy’s Bakery. He moved to Hoople, ND, where he owned and operated a bar. He then moved to Grafton, ND, where he owned and operated the Club 45 Bar. Later, he moved to Grand Forks and managed a coin shop and was employed as part time dry waller until his retirement in 2003. Carlton married Blenda Kvamme in Grand Forks. She preceded him in death. During his retirement years, he enjoyed restoring and refinishing furniture as well as gardening.

Norman Edward Nelson, 83, of Oslo, MN passed away on January 19, 2013 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer under the care of his family & hospice.
Norman Edward Nelson, son of Hjalmer and Evelyn (Haugen) Nelson was born in rural Oslo, MN on December 31, 1929. He was raised and attended grade school in Oak Park Township and graduated from Oslo High School in 1948, where he was active in basketball and baseball. He married RaeAnn Olson in East Grand Forks, MN on December 30, 1954. He served in the 3rd Armored Division of the U.S. Army from 1954-1956 being stationed and living in Fort Knox, KY and Ft. Benning, Columbus, GA. After his military service, they returned to the Oslo area to live and farm until his retirement. Norman was active in the Oslo community, where he was a lifelong member of and served as a post commander of the American Legion Post 331. He was also a past City Council member and a school bus driver for 35 years. Norman was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Oslo.

He was born December 3, 1928 to Thomas and Ida (Krese) Jackson in Grand Forks, ND. He attended rural school in East Grand Forks. Kenneth was drafted into the Army and was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska for two years during the Korean War. He returned back to the family farm to work in East Grand Forks. Kenneth married Helen Tallum on December 18, 1954 in Warren, MN. He worked for the City of Warren for many years until his retirement in 1985. Kenneth enjoyed reading, archery, playing horseshoes and visiting with family and friends. He was a member of the Warren American Legion and was a founding member of the Warren Horseshoe Club.

Kenneth enjoyed reading, archery, playing horseshoes and visiting with family and friends. He was a member of the Warren American Legion and was a founding member of the Warren Horseshoe Club.

Glen Gunderson
Glen Gunderson, 92, of Cavalier, ND passed away on January 12, 2013, at the Borg Pioneer Home in Mountain. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at the Bathgate Presbyterian Church, Bathgate, ND at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 15th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service and Masonic service, at the Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND Interment Bathgate Cemetery, Bathgate, ND.
Glen was born on February 22, 1920, at the home of his grandmother in Grafton, ND to Henry and Olive (Hall) Gunderson. He grew up in rural Hoople, ND and was confirmed at Park Center rural church. He attended rural school and graduated from Hoople High School, then attended NDAC for the short course in agriculture. In 1939, he moved to Bathgate where the family resided, farmed and still owns farmland. From March of 1942 to November of 1945, he served in the US Navy. Glen served as an Armed Guard & was discharged as a Gunner Mate 2nd class. On February 14, 1948, he married May Morrison in Bathgate, ND.

William Richard Jeffrey
William Richard Jeffrey, 67, Grand Forks, went home to be with the Lord Monday, January 14, 2013, with his family at his side, after losing his short and courageous battle with cancer.
William was born on March 24, 1945 in Fargo, ND and adopted by Harvard F. and Mary (Brossart) Jeffrey. He was raised in Grand Forks and attended St. Michael's School, and later attended Valley Middle School and Central High School. William served in the North Dakota National Guard from 1965 to 1971 as a cook for the Grand Forks 231st Engineering Unit. William recently celebrated his 46th wedding anniversary with his wife, Lois (Fontaine) Jeffrey, whom he married on August 20, 1966. They had two children, Annette and Richard. William was a baker for Hugo's for 44 years before his retirement in 2008. Starting work there at the age of 19, he was a part of the first original team of bakers. After his retirement, he then had a part time job as a warehouse helper and truck driver with the Grand Forks Public Schools Child Nutrition Program, where he was employed until his passing. Bill will be remembered for his love of his family, his quiet manner, his smile, and his willingness to always help others. His family would like to thank Altru Hospice and the Altru Cancer Center for the care they gave to Bill.
