Kenneth L. Westby, age 81 of East Grand Forks, MN passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Valley Eldercare Center in Grand Forks, ND.
Kenneth L. Westby was born September 12, 1931 to Olaf and Madeline (Grimord) Westby, in Iron Mountain, MI. He was raised in Kingsford, MI and attended the University of Michigan, graduating in 1954. He entered the US Air Force as a Reserve Second Lieutenant. He later earned a regular commission and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1974. During those years he was stationed at Long Island, NY; Tripoli Libya; Bangor, ME; Wichita Falls, TX; Tucson, AZ; Montgomery, AL; Washington D.C.; Fort Ritchie, Maryland; Saigon, Vietnam; and Grand Forks. While on active duty, Ken earned a master’s degree from the George Washington University; in 1977 he began teaching in the college of business and public administration, at University of North Dakota. He retired with emeritus status in 1994.

Interstate 29 was closed from the South Dakota border north to Grand Forks as a strong winter storm moved through the southern Red River Valley Sunday. The Herald is naming the storm after media personality Anderson Cooper, who befriended local columnist Marilyn Hagerty after she went viral in 2012.
