We have come to the weekend here in Grand Forks that marks the culmination of the long, long winter. This is the weekend for graduation at UND. It’s the weekend when people are out in their yards surveying the winter’s devastation. And the weekend when things start landing on the berms during the annual spring clean up.

The fourth annual Dancing for Special Stars, a fundraiser for Special Olympics North Dakota, will be Tuesday at the Empire Arts Center in Grand Forks.... The Circle of Friends Humane Society will host the 12th annual Raise Your Paws For Pets dinner and auction with a social hour at 6 p.m. April 4 and dinner at 7 p.m. at the Alerus Center Junior Ballroom.

Tom, or Tommy, Mikkelson, who is always cheery, has a bigger smile than ever on his face this week. He received the Male Athlete of the Year Award provided by Special Olympics at a banquet in Fargo Saturday.
