Study on declining Minnesota moose numbers switches focus to calves
The Minnesota DNR has started the second phase of its ambitious study to determine why the state's moose population is declining so rapidly. In a $1.2 million study earlier this winter, researchers attached high-tech GPS collars to adult moose. Last week, they began collaring newborn moose calves.

Irene M. Sweeney age 85 of Grand Forks, ND formerly of Manvel, ND and Walhalla, ND died peacefully Saturday April 13, 2013.
Irene Marie Jackson was born August 28, 1927 the daughter of Archie and Pauline (Furstenau) Jackson in Walhalla. She graduated from Walhalla Public School in 1945. She worked for Sheppard Telephone Company in Walhalla and Northwestern Bell and the Grand Forks Clinic in Grand Forks as a telephone operator. Irene married John A. Sweeney on November 5, 1952 in St. Boniface Catholic Church, Walhalla. The couple resided in rural Manvel where they farmed and raised five children. After the passing of John, Irene moved to Parkwood Place in Grand Forks in 1997.

Orriene H. Moen
Orriene H. Moen, 74, of Kent, Washington passed away Monday, March 11, 2013 at Hallmark Manor in Federal Way, Washington. Orriene was born April 19th, 1938 in Grand Forks, North Dakota to Otto and Lillie Gilbertson. She grew up and attended school is Petersburg, North Dakota. Orriene met and married her Husband of 52 years, Gene R. Moen in Larimore, North Dakota where they lived until March of 1965 when they moved to Kent, Washington. She worked for many years at Eddie Bauer and then Boeing where she retired from. She was preceded in death by her husband Gene, an infant son, David Gene and her parents Otto and Lillie Gilbertson, brothers Gordon and Orris, sister Leone.
Survivors are one daughter, Barbara Schott of Kent, WA, grandsons Bryan and Michael of Kent, WA and Chris (Tara) of Bonney Lake, WA, great grandson Cooper of Bonney Lake, WA, one brother, Harlan Gilbertson of Kent, WA and one sister, Betty Lebrun of Larimore, ND. and many nieces and nephews.

The newly remodeled 600-plus seat auditorium is hosting its first performances as Central students present the musical “How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying.” The balcony original to the theater (and removed in about 1969) has been rebuilt and is ready for a new era of theater-goers.
