James S. “Buzz” Liska, age 69, of Doyon, ND, died Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Sanford Kindred Care in Fargo, ND.
James was born February 14, 1944 in Lakota, ND, the son of James J. and Selma (Halvorson) Liska. He grew up and attended school in Warwick, ND. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1960 – 1964 on the USS Ft. Snelling. After his military service, James moved back to North Dakota where he graduated from Mayville State University. James married Jane Tronson on June 8, 1973 in Doyon, ND. He operated James Liska Masonry in Doyon for 40 years. He was a member of the Doyon Lutheran Church.

Margaret Skjervem
Margaret Skjervem, age 87, resident of Lakota, ND, formerly of Whitman, ND, died Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Society in Lakota.
Margaret Genieve Anderson was born April 5, 1926 in Michigan, ND, the daughter of Christian and Anna (Gustafson) Anderson. She was raised on her parents’ farm. Margaret attended a rural elementary school and graduated from Michigan High School in 1944. After high school she spent five years helping care for her grandmother at Aunt Mintie’s home in Michigan. She worked as a nanny in the cities and as a nurse’s aide in Sharon, ND and at the hospital in Michigan, ND. She married Leland Skjervem on April 18, 1958 and lived on the farm until the fall of 2004 when she moved to Lakota. She has resided at the Good Samaritan home since December of 2004. Leland passed away October 25, 2006.

Denise Ellen Fuglem
Denise Ellen Fuglem, 46, of Larimore, North Dakota, entered eternal rest on May 1, 2013 from her courageous battle of cancer, with her family by her side in Northwood Deaconess Heath Center. She was born on July 11, 1966, to Elroy and Dorothy Johnson in Rugby, North Dakota. Denise was baptized in Bethany Lutheran church in Rugby North Dakota, and confirmed at the Michigan Lutheran Church. She graduated with the class of 1984 from Michigan High School. She attended Northland Community & Technical College in East Grand Forks and UMC of Crookston, MN. She was employed at the Altru Rehab in Grand Forks, and the Community Credit Union branches of Larimore, Northwood, and Grand Forks. Denise married Darrel Fuglem on November 9, 1985 in Michigan, North Dakota and together they raised six children.
Denise had a positive and spontaneous attitude. She loved digging in the garden, the color purple, canning salsa and spaghetti sauce, country music, dancing, and going to the demolition derbys. Denise was the queen of thrift store shopping where she loved to get the best bargains. She was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter,sister, aunt, and loyal friend. Denise was always so full of life, no matter what the circumstances were. Throughout her treatments she still made sure her kids and friends were well taken care of, as she always put others first. Denise touched many lives and is truly an inspiration to her family and friends. Denise will be deeply missed and in our hearts forever.
