Cando pasta plant to restart next week
The former Noodles by Leonardo pasta plant in Cando, N.D., will begin producing pasta next week, about six months after it closed its doors. Noodles by Leonardo, which had about 225 employees in 1989, employed about 30 when it closed in October. Most of the recent hires are former employees.

Ethel Lipp
Ethel Lipp, age 95, of East Grand Forks, MN, formerly of Cando and Rolla, ND passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2013 at Edgewood Vista Nursing Home, East Grand Forks, MN.

Ethel I. Lipp was born on May 6, 1918 in Bisbee, ND to Victor and Emilie (Winneberg) Nelson. Her family farmed in the rural Agate and Wolford area. Ethel attended Hardwheat Country School through 8th grade and attended High School in Bisbee. She married Harlan Lipp on February 14, 1937 and they lived in Cando until 1953 when they moved to Rolla. Ethel had a variety of jobs in Rolla including SuperValue Grocery, the Rolla Mercantile Store, Rolette County Court House, and Theel Motors. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star in Rolla. She was also a long time member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Rolla. Ethel was currently a resident of Edgewood Vista Nursing Home where she passed away peacefully on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 12, 2013.

Marvel Ann Klein
Marvel Ann Klein, 80, of Langdon, ND died on Friday, April 26th, 2013 at the Maple Manor Care Center in Langdon, ND.

Marvel Ann Weiss was born on November 25, 1932 in Red Lake Falls Township MN. Marvel was the thirteenth child born to the Henry Weiss family. She was baptized and confirmed in the Wylie Lutheran Church, near Red Lake Falls, MN. She attended school in Red Lake Falls, MN. In 1953 she moved to the Munich, ND area after answering a farmer's newspaper ad seeking a housekeeper. She met her first husband, Lawrence Kastner while attending church in Munich, ND. Marvel married Lawrence Kastner on June 21, 1955 at Cando, ND. They had two children, Bruce Lawrence who only lived for a few days and Delbert Dale. They lived and worked on the family farm near Alsen, ND. She also operated the Alsen Café for many years serving meals, baking pies, rolls and buns for the many people that would stop by to enjoy them with a cup of coffee. Marvel began working at Maple Manor Nursing Home, Langdon, ND in the fall of 1973. She enjoyed caring for and visiting with the residents. She worked at the Maple Manor Care Center for 23 years as a nurse's aide and housekeeper. She and Lawrence continued to live on the family farm until Lawrence's death on November 13, 1973. After Lawrence's death, Marvel moved to Langdon, ND.

Jerome P. Bannach
Jerome P. Bannach, 76, of Grand Forks, ND passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at his home.

Jerome Peter Bannach was born April 11, 1936 on the family farm near Calio, ND, the son of George and Agnes (Fetsch) Bannach. He attended Calio School and graduated from Egland High School. He attended Aaker's Business College in Grand Forks, graduating with a degree in Accounting. He was employed with the Chevrolet Dealership in Cando, ND and later was employed and retired after 37 years with Rydell Chevrolet in Grand Forks. Jerome married Mary J. Mueller on March 29, 1967 in Holy Family Catholic Church in Grand Forks. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church for 46 years and the Knights of Columbus for 55 years. He joined the Knights of Columbus Council 1779 in Devils Lake, ND in 1958 and transferred to the Knights of Columbus Council 1260 in Grand Forks, ND. He was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus; a very loving husband, father and grandfather. He really enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
