George M. Watkins
George Mason Watkins, 88, of Mesa, Arizona passed away Thursday May 16, 2013. George was born June 8, 1924 in Wimbledon, North Dakota the son of the late George Ambrose Watkins and Hattie (Mason) Watkins. George grew up in Carrington, North Dakota. During WWII he served in the US Army Air Corps as a top turret gunner on a B-17. After attending the University of North Dakota in 1947 under the G.I. Bill he was commissioned a 2nd Lt in the Air Force and in 1949 was recalled to active duty and flew 58 combat missions while being assigned in Korea. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross .After serving in Alaska, Germany and France he returned to North Dakota in 1963 and was assigned as Professor of Aerospace Studies at the University of North Dakota. In 1966 he was assigned to Andrews AFB in Washington D.C. as Director of Manpower for Air Force Systems Command and was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal. He was the Military Attaché for President Richard Nixon during his Inauguration. George retired as Lt. Col, USAF in 1969.
George is survived by his wife Patricia: son, Mark (Cheryl) Watkins of West Chester, Ohio, and daughter Melanee (Michael) Horken of East Grand Forks MN., grandchildren Brent (Stefanie) Watkins and Scott Watkins, Christa (Cullen) Schneider and Sarah Horken, Great-Grandson Hunter Michael Schneider, Great-Granddaughter Alison Rose Watkins, brother Bill Watkins of Prescott, Arizona, sister Dorothy Schroeder of Langdon, ND, and several nieces and nephews.

LeRoy Ronald “Ronnie” Teigland, 82, of East Grand Forks, MN died Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at the Roseau Life Care Center, Roseau, MN.
Ronnie Teigland was born September 27, 1930 in Goodridge, MN the son of Allen and Marjorie “Alice” (Stephenson) Teigland. He moved to Grygla, MN where he attended rural Grygla schools. He served his country in the US Army from 1950-1952. He moved to Waukegan, IL and worked at various jobs and started his career in plumbing and pipefitting. He worked on many construction sites at schools, water plants, missile sites, paper mills, sugar beet factories and Altru Rehab Clinic, usually as a foreman or general foreman. He also farmed his home place at Grygla, MN for a few years while working construction. On December 13, 1969 he married Irene Flaten in Warren, MN. Ronnie retired in 1994 and then worked on farms for Tommy Jackson, Rodney Pape and for many years Dan Driscoll, where he loved being on the tractor.

Adeline C. Thorson, 98, of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, passed away at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks on May 17, 2013. Adeline Corinne Torgerson was born July 3, 1914 to Leif and Helen (Flaat) Torgerson in Thompson, North Dakota, Bentru Township. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith and confirmed at Bygland Lutheran Church, where she was a lifelong member, active in Ladies Aid, Altar Guild, and church Choir. Adeline attended Bygland School and graduated from East Grand Forks Senior High School. After completing two years of teacher's training at Moorhead Normal School, she taught at Bygland "Country School."
On November 16, 1946 she married Harold Thorson in Bygland, MN. They farmed in Bygland Township for over 30 years, where she worked in their home and tended a beautiful yard and large garden. A member of Homemaker's Club, she was known for her pies, cookies, bread, lefse and other Norwegian treats. She always enjoyed a game of Scrabble.

Arthur William Lynnes, 100, formerly of Rolette, died on Sunday , May 12 , 2013 at the Good Samaritan Home in Larimore, North Dakota.
He was born on November 1, 1912 to Nels and Lena (Larson) Lynnes in Rice Township - Rolette, North Dakota, where he was raised and went to school. He farmed for a few years before he married Judith Bernice Absalonson on December 27, 1941 in Mylo, North Dakota. On April 23, 1942 he was drafted into the Army and eventually went to Europe on the RMS Queen Mary, which was being used as a troop ship during the war. He was involved in the Normandy, Northern France, and German campaigns in his assignment for the 944th Ordnance unit. He was awarded the Good Conduct and European-African Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign medals. He was honorably discharged as a Technician 5th Grade on May 24, 1945. Upon returning he began his extended employment at the Farmers Union Oil Company in Rolette as a bulk fuel truck driver. He also operated his own truck hauling gravel in the area. In addition, he drove truck for the Bisbee Grain Company. Further, he was a substitute mail carrier in Rolette and also farmed in the area. He and his wife moved to the
