An effort to temporarily prohibit new rental registration for single-family homes died Monday night as the Bemidji City Council voted 4-3 against the measure. Those opposed said they recognized that Bemidji is facing housing problems, but said they did not support a complete halt in additional rentals.

I’d like to see Grand Forks publish the names of the rental property owners each time there is an infraction related to their property. My guess is that the rental infractions would drop dramatically if the rental property owners’ names were published in the Herald.

The news that Blockbuster Inc. plans to close as many as 960 of their video and DVD rental stores nationwide has little or no effect on the local stores. That’s what Kevin Seeger told the Herald on Thursday. He’s a partner and general manager in North Central Management, a Grand Forks-based corporation that owns 15 Blockbuster franchise stores, including two in Grand Forks, as well as stores in Bemidji and Fargo.
