Sen. Kent Conrad, D-N.D., letter: America needs a bipartisan budget agreement
I served on that commission and voted for its final report, which would have reduced deficits by nearly $4 trillion over the next decade. Now, I am working with a bipartisan group of senators on an effort to make that report — or something close to it — the law of the land.

Sen. Kent Conrad, D-N.D., letter: Grateful to the people of North Dakota
There are serious challenges facing our state and nation, like a $14 trillion debt and America’s dependence on foreign oil. It is more important I spend my time and energy trying to solve these problems than to be distracted by a campaign for reelection.

Sen. Kent Conrad, D-N.D., letter: Balanced-budget amendment ‘not the answer’
The amendments that have been proposed so far are riddled with problems. By restricting the government’s ability to respond during an economic downturn, they would compound the decline and potentially throw the economy into a recession or worse.

Sen. Kent Conrad, D-N.D., column : Listen, learn on National PTSD Awareness Day
The fact is that PTSD is real, and it needs to be addressed now. All too many of our servicemen and women are returning from Iraq and Afghanistan suffering from PTSD symptoms such as sleeplessness, anger, anxiety and depression as they try to adjust to life back home. These are the invisible wounds of war.

Earl Pomeroy, Kent Conrad and Byron Dorgan, Washington, column: Congressional delegation: Thank you, Lake Region
Many of these federal officials saw the situation up close for the first time. It was critical that they understand the urgent danger the region is facing from the rising lake. They now know the threat people in the area live with every day.

Sen. Kent Conrad, viewpoint: U.S. House should act on Farm Bill
It now appears that Congress will fail to deliver a Farm Bill to support our nation’s agriculture producers, rural communities and the least fortunate among us. As the Senate passed a bill on an overwhelming bipartisan basis, the fault for inaction falls squarely at the feet of the House of Representatives.

Sen. Kent Conrad, D-N.D., column: Compromise shows how government should work
Six weeks ago, I again worked with Chambliss to organize a bipartisan coalition of 10 senators — five Democrats and five Republicans — to find a compromise on an energy proposal to reduce gas prices, lessen our nation’s dependence on foreign oil and strengthen America’s economy. After much debate, we reached an agreement.
