UPDATED: 9:40 P.M.
About 9:30 p.m., the National Weather Service canceled the tornado warning and severe thunderstorm warning for Steele County south and east of Finley, N.D., which had been earlier announced to last until 9:45 p.m. tonight, as the storm system weakened as the daytime energy wore out, said Jim Kaiser, of the weather service’s office in Grand Forks.

A few other sites across eastern North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota fell to freezing or below early today, and a warning is out for early Sunday for freezing temperatures across much of extreme northwestern Minnesota.

This year will go down as the calmest severe weather season since the National Weather Service office has been in Grand Forks. There were 145 severe weather reports for the weather service’s warning area. Severe weather reports include tornado reports, hail three-quarters of an inch or larger and wind speeds of 58 mph or greater.
