Event raises 'Honor Flight' funds
For Robert Carlson, the lasting memory of the first North Valley Honor Flight was the camaraderie among the veterans. For Charles Carpenter, the trip's highlight was the ride through Arlington Cemetery. The Grand Forks men were reliving their April trip Wednesday at the county office building, at a fundraising luncheon for the second — and probably last — honor flight out of Grand Forks. The flights allow World War II veterans to visit the WWII Memorial and other historic attractions, with all expenses paid.
