My daughter, Becky, startled me with a bit of uncharacteristic fatalism when she summed up the human condition with the expression “life is hard, then you die” ... At first, I thought the summation was a little on the dark side. Upon reflection, however, my opinion is changing as I see the hard situations confronting some folks in these troublesome times.
