Here’s what Brouillet writes about catching the behemoth, which he hooked in 21 feet of water: “It took myself and my neighbor, Kent Swanson, 30-plus minutes to land this brute. With Kent at the wheel of the boat, we had to strategically fight this big creature in order to land it and take measurements. I was using my favorite 5-foot, 6-inch jigging rod and a 1-ounce jig tipped with a minnow when this monster sucked up the bait. When all was said and done, this prehistoric marvel weighed in at 58.9 pounds and measured 64.5 inches long, and was a DNR ‘tagged’ fish. I know many people have caught larger sturgeon than this one, but it was easily the largest fish I've ever caught. I will provide the Minnesota DNR with the info on this fish. The fish was released immediately after the photos were taken and swam away unharmed. Hopefully, someone else will have the opportunity to catch and release this fish again someday.”
