John Walker Brett, age 77, Waite Park, MN passed away, a short time after a diagnosis of cancer, on Saturday, March 9, 2013. His last days were in the tranquil setting of Quiet Oaks Hospice House, St. Augusta, MN.
Funeral services will be Thursday, March 14, 2013 at 3:00 PM at Love of Christ Lutheran Church, 1971 Pine Cone Road, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be from noon to 3:00 PM on Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Oak Knoll Cemetery, Princeton, MN. Funeral arrangements were made by Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN.
John was born October 31, 1935 in Minot, ND to James and Carrie (Rasmussen) Brett. After his high school years at Grand Forks Central he went on to college at the University of North Dakota, graduating in 1957 with a degree in accounting. John was united in marriage to Lois Julson on April 2, 2005 in St. Cloud, MN.
On October 31, 1988, after many years in private industry, John acquired a division of the company where he worked. It is now known as Brett Admixtures located in Albertville, MN.
John has touched many lives through his active involvement in his church. He liked meeting new people and was always interested in hearing about their lives. Through his strong faith and sense of humor, he had a way of brightening people's lives. He was active in the AA/Alanon program and was very proud of his 16 plus years of sobriety.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Julson-Brett, Waite Park, MN; children, John (Dawna) Brett, Jr., Monticello, MN. Mary (James) Gubbin, Minneapolis, MN; step children, Kevin Julson, St. Cloud, MN. Keith (Paulette) Julson, Princeton, MN; grandson, George; step grandchildren, Brian (Sarah), Brent (Kim), Kayla (Cass), Brielle (Tim), Aaron; step great grandchildren, Drew, Carter, Gavin, and Gregor; brother, James (Ruth) Brett, St. George, UT; sisters, Virginia (Fred) Stewart, Grand Forks, ND, Karen (Jerry) Griffin, Grand Forks, ND, Margaret (Art) Hillman, Grand Forks, ND; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents,
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Love of Christ Lutheran Church or Quiet Oaks Hospice House.
