Carol J. Gilberg, 80, Grand Forks, ND died Saturday, February 23, 2013 at home surrounded by her family.Carol Joanne Cowan was born January 31, 1933 in Maza, ND the daughter of Roy and Grace (Hillerman) Cowan. She was raised and educated at Churchs Ferry, ND and graduated from high school there in 1951. Carol attended Minot State College then taught school in rural Ramsey County, ND.

Carol J. Gilberg, 80, Grand Forks, ND died Saturday, February 23, 2013 at home surrounded by her family.
Carol Joanne Cowan was born January 31, 1933 in Maza, ND the daughter of Roy and Grace (Hillerman) Cowan. She was raised and educated at Churchs Ferry, ND and graduated from high school there in 1951. Carol attended Minot State College then taught school in rural Ramsey County, ND.
She married Nels Gilberg on August 29, 1953. They lived in Devils Lake, ND before moving to Grand Forks in 1954.
Carol was an active volunteer in both Calvary Lutheran Church and in the community of Grand Forks. She loved spending time with her family and friends, time at Cass Lake, MN, and UND hockey games.
Survivors include her sons, Thomas, Burnsville, MN, Ronald (LeeAnn), Bemidji, MN, Michael (Pam), Mendota Heights, MN, Curtis (Debbie) Thompson, ND, Paul, Grand Forks, ND, and Neal (Fiancée Trina Mehl), Surrey, ND; 10 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; brothers, Roger (Suzie) Cowan, Sacramento, CA and Gordon Cowan, Devils Lake, ND.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nels and by her parents.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 27, 2013 in Calvary Lutheran Church of Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the church. Private burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery of Grand Forks.
In Lieu of Flowers, the family suggests memorials be directed to Altru Cancer Center or Calvary Lutheran Church Women.
