Donna L Culbreath, age 68, of Grand Forks ND, passed away unexpectedly, with family by her side on Thursday February 14th, 2013 at Altru hospital. A celebration of Donna’s life will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church (Grand Forks) on Saturday February 23rd, 2013 with visitation starting at 10 am and the funeral service to follow at 11 am.
Donna was born in Bremerton, Washington April 4th, 1944 to Maurice and Irene Herber, she was the eldest of two children. Though she had received her Bachelor’s degree in Science education from the University of Washington and subsequently her master’s degree in education as well, at the time, it was traveling that was the love of her life. Donna spent the majority of her 20’s and 30’s traveling the world, exploring abandoned ruins or participating in adventurous expeditions.
She eventually settled in the state of North Dakota, and pursued a degree in special education. Donna worked for Upper Valley and taught at Emerado Public school. She worked tirelessly for the kids that she taught, and could not have loved her job more; her unwavering dedication to education was immense. Donna looked forward to every day with the kids of Emerado School and had always spoken with such pride when describing the accomplishments of “her kids”. Donna always looked to make learning fun, as she would use tales of her travels, and bring pictures or artifacts to reinforce or enhance the learning for her students.
Family and friends were also incredibly important to Donna. On any given day you would find her baking or cooking with granddaughter Aspen, going to the movies with grandson Hunter or simply playing an important game of floor hockey with grandson Brooks. When she was not with her three favorite people, the grandkids, she was off lunching with friends.
Donna is preceded in death by her parents, Maurice and Irene Herber.
Those left to mourn her loss include daughter Jennifer Moreland, son in law Josh Moreland, grandchildren Hunter, Aspen and Brooks (Moreland(Grand Forks)), as well as loving sister, Judy Bass and brother in law Neil Bass (Bremerton, Washington), 6 nieces, 2 nephews as well as countless close friends. Please join family and friends in the celebration of her life this coming Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
