Helen L. Ramsey

Helen L. Ramsey, age 86 of Crystal, ND passed away on Friday, Feb, 15 at Pembina County Memorial Hospital, Cavalier, ND. Mass of Christian Burial on Wed. Feb. 20, 2013 at St. Patrick Church, Crystal, ND at 10 AM. Visitation on Tues. from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 6 PM at Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND.

The daughter of William and Margaret (McAndress) O'Sullivan, Helen was born in rural Crystal, ND on February 6, 1926.

On June 30, 1947, Helen married Laurence Alton Ramsey at Crystal, ND. They resided in Albuquerque, New Mexico and Riverdale, ND before returning to Crystal in June, 1954. Helen loved God, her family and life. She especially enjoyed baking, cooking, and canning. Her specialties were juneberry and lemon merengue pie. She also enjoyed reading, visiting friends and travel, including two trips to Europe and one to China. Most of all, Helen enjoyed children, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Helen was devout member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Crystal.

She attended grade school and high school in Crystal, graduating in 1944. She taught summer school at a rural school near Neche, ND. She went on to study nursing at the University of North Dakota for two years. Helen returned to UND later in life and earned her bachelor's degree and master's degree in education in 1970. She taught in Crystal for one year (1969-1970). She then taught in Park River, ND from 1970-1980 and Adams and Edinburgh from 1980-1991.

She was a proud member of Altar Society of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, American Legion Auxillary of Crystal, ND, North Dakota Education Assoc., American Assoc. of University Women, & member of Pioneer Daughters.

Preceding Helen in death were her parents, ten brothers and sisters, and her husband, Laurence Ramsey, who passed in 2011.

Those left to mourn her loss include her children- L. Thomas Ramsey, Honolulu, HI; Michael Ramsey, Grand Forks, ND; Bruce (Kathy) Ramsey, Locust Grove, VA; Douglas Ramsey, Crystal, ND; Edward (Jane) Ramsey, Bloomington, MN; Kathleen Korte, Grimes, IA; Theresa (John) Mlinar, Coon Rapids, MN; and Mary Jo (Ronald) Slaathaug, Thompson, ND. Also surviving her are ten grandchildren, five great- grandchildren with two more expected in June.
