Beatrice Helen (Grove) Swanson

Beatrice Swanson, 100, Lenexa, KS, passed away peacefully on Feb. 4, 2013 at Lakeview Village Care Center. A service will be held to celebrate her life on Monday, Feb. 18, 10:30 AM, at the Activity Center of Heritage Place, Lakeview Village, 9100 Park St., Lenexa, KS. Beatrice was born on a farm in Polk County, MN, on Sept. 9, 1912 to Henry and Bertine Grove. She was raised and educated in the Climax, MN area. In 1927 at age 15 she met her future husband (Adolph Gustav Swanson) as he played the violin at a Minnesota barn dance. They were married on Sept. 9, 1936. Beatrice and Adolph raised their family in Grand Forks, ND where they were members of Sharon Lutheran Church. In 1988 Bea moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she attended Cedar Valley Bible Church, and in 2005 to Lenexa, KS, both times to be near family members. She loved her Bible studies and looked forward to meeting Jesus. Beatrice was preceded in death by her husband Adolph (1970) and all eleven of her brothers and sisters. Throughout her life Bea proudly rattled off the Grove children’s names, “Chester, Arthur, Helmer, Nordean, Hazel, Alice, Orris, Beatrice, Irene, Myrtle, Clifford, Eleanor.” Beatrice left behind her five children: Dwaine B Swanson (Diane), Gladstone, MO, Dennis A Swanson (Nila), Lincoln, NE, Ronald L. Swanson (Joyce), Shawnee, KS, James A Swanson (Sharlotte), Los Altos, CA, and Linda K Goodman (David), Byron, MN; 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Beatrice’s life and legacy will also be celebrated in the near future at the 17th Biannual Swanson Reunion of her very close-knit family. It was always one of Bea’s greatest joys in life to see her children have fun together. We all will miss her story telling which she would do spontaneously, especially about her large Norwegian family and her own children. Her most used statements throughout life to her family and to all she met or knew was “I Love You” and “You are so beautiful.” Goodbye Mom and Grandma, till we meet again! You will be greatly missed and we love you! Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Forks, ND during a graveside service in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lakeview Village Foundation. 9100 Park St., Lenexa, KS 66215. (Arr: Cremation Society of Kansas & Missouri, 8837 Roe, Prairie Village, KS 66207; 913
