Esther A. Viger

Our loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother, Esther Viger passed away at the age of 99 on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Society in Park River, ND.

Esther Adeline Holm was born August 31, 1913 in Derrick, ND, the daughter of Elling and Alma (Sander) Holm. She lived her entire life in the Edmore area. She attended schools in Edmore and Mayville College, where she obtained a Teachers Certificate. She taught school in Newland and Fancher Townships, which were one room class rooms with all grades. On March 16, 1935, Esther was united in marriage to Lloyd Melvin Viger in Edmore. After marriage they farmed in Newland Township and raised their two children, Donald and Judy. Lloyd passed away on August 26, 1969. Esther continued to live on the farm and hold various jobs in the Edmore community well into her 70’s, only stopped by a fall fracturing her knee. Esther was a very active member of Concordia Lutheran Church of Edmore and the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed crocheting, which many of her doilies reside in homes in the area, and mowing her yard, until her 90’s.
