John T. Stancyk

John T. Stancyk, 90, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Lutheran Sunset Home in Grafton, ND.

John was born February 17, 1922 in Wright Township, Marshall County, MN, the son of John B. and Frances (Hapka) Stancyk. He attended country school, worked on the family farm in rural Florian, MN, and served in the U.S. Army.

John T. Stancyk, 90, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Lutheran Sunset Home in Grafton, ND.

John was born February 17, 1922 in Wright Township, Marshall County, MN, the son of John B. and Frances (Hapka) Stancyk. He attended country school, worked on the family farm in rural Florian, MN, and served in the U.S. Army.

He married Florence Altendorf on October 19, 1953 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Warsaw, ND. They made their home in rural Strandquist, MN where he farmed until 1966 when he retired from farming and moved to Grand Forks, ND. He worked for Bert’s Truck Equipment, East Grand Forks, MN and later for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co., Grand Forks, ND. They also lived in East Grand Forks, MN for a number of years prior to moving to Lutheran Sunset Home in Grafton, ND.

John is survived by six children: Marie Halda (John)-Rochester, MN, Joann Kittilson (Jim)-Spokane, WA, Theresa Wasylow (the late Patrick Wasylow)-Grand Forks, ND, Raymond Stancyk (Nancy Vonasek)-East Grand Forks, MN, John Stancyk, Jr.-Rochester, MN and Carol Galde (Jon)-Rochester, MN; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, two brothers (Thomas and Stanley), two sisters (Antoinette Kleinwachter and Bernice LaBine), son-in-law Patrick Wasylow and infant grandson Paul William Galde.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 16, at 10:30 AM at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 524 5th Ave N. Grand Forks, ND.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 15, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service at Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will continue in the church for one hour prior to the Funeral Mass on Wednesday.

Interment will follow at Memorial Park South Cemetery, 3002 S. Washington St., Grand Forks, ND.

HI, just got the notice of johns passing,Wed. 1.45pm ( Thanks Tim Swartz) had I seen this yesterday I could have attended. sorry for your loss, he was a fun guy, hope he has enough beechnut chew for his journey.....God Bless the family. Terry Marcotte

To Marie Joann Theresa Carol Raymond John Nancy and I want to send our sympathy to You and your families. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. We will always remember Big John for all the good he did and all the help he gave us as his neighbor. He will be missed by all of us but not not forgotten.
