Lowell E. Hurtt Sr.

Lowell E. Hurtt Sr, age 74 of Hoople, ND passed away on Monday, January 07, 2013 at his home in Hoople.

Lowell E. Hurtt was born September 20, 1938 in Grafton, ND the son of the late Hamilton and Olga (Paulson) Hurtt. He attended Gryde School District #76 in Glenwood Township and graduated from Hoople High School in 1956. Lowell was united in marriage to Irma Axvig on February 17, 1957. The couple made their home west of Hoople. He farmed and worked part time at various jobs until he started the Allis Chalmers Dealership in 1964. After he retired in 1983 the couple managed the Frolander's Island Lodge at the Northwest Angle for several years. Irma passed away on January 21, 1991. Lowell married Linda Hornbuckle on March 16, 1996 in Mesa, AZ. The couple made their home in Hoople in the summer months and Mesa in the winter months.

Lowell was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Hoople. He served on the church council, served on the Hoople City Council, the Swimming Pool Board, the Hoople Volunteer Ambulance Board and the National Allis-Chalmers Dealers Council. He enjoyed spending time at Lake of the Woods fishing, making replica old cars, he was an avid wood worker, making replica old churches, schools and family dwellings. Lowell enjoyed spending time with family especially his kids and grandkids.

He is survived by his wife Linda, Hoople, ND; children: Ruth (Mark) Bennington, Park River, ND; Thomas (Carla) Hurtt, Hoople, ND; Daniel (Mary) Hurtt, Hoople, ND; Rebecca (Kevin) Degenstein, Great Falls, MT; Brenda (Joseph) Hosek, Tucson, AZ; Lowell Jr. (Lynda) Hurtt, Hoople, ND: 13 grandchildren: Jamie (Mari) Bennington, Josh (Jerri) Bennington, McKayla Bennington, Callie & Alyssa Hurtt, Tabetha & Marlee Hurtt, Michael Degenstein, Elizabeth (Joseph) Boone, Jacob Degenstein, Jessica & Ashley Hosek, Tiffany Hurtt, great granddaughter; Paige Bennington; brothers: Hamilton Jr. (Marian) Hurtt, Hoople, ND; George (Ellen) Hurtt, Hoople, ND; Dean (Bev) Hurtt, Hoople, ND; brother-in-law: Donald (Shirley) Tisdale, St. Thomas, ND; sister-in-law: Adeline (Winten) Gunderson, Grafton, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Irma, brother John and sister Marion Tisdale.

Funeral services will be Friday, January 11, 2013 at 1:00 PM at First Lutheran Church of Hoople. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may also call at the church on Friday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Hoople City Cemetery.
