Larry Younggren

Larry Younggren, 81, a lifelong Hallock area farmer passed away at Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center in Hallock on Friday, January 4, 2013. Larry was born to Edward and Anna (Lund) Younggren at Northcote, Minnesota on July 4, 1931. He attended country school, Hallock Public School and the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston, graduating from there in 1949. Larry also attended the MacPhail Center for Music in St. Paul, Minnesota. On June 27, 1954 he was united in marriage to Rose Layhon at Northcote. They lived 10 years in Northcote before moving to a farm in Hill Township. In 1973 Larry and Rose moved into Hallock. Larry was very active in his church and community. He was a deacon and elder of First Presbyterian Church; clerk for Hill Township; was a former chairman of the Kittson Central School Board, receiving his “Bell” for 12 years of service and helped promote the building of the Hallock Hockey Arena. Larry also served on several ag related boards and committees including, RRV Farmers Insurance Pool, 1981 - 1991; Red River Valley Sugar Growers Association Executive Committee 1978 - 1989 and the Growers District Board of Directors for the Drayton American Crystal Sugar Plant, 1978 - 1989. He was a Master Mason of Lodge #212 , a Shrine member, Lions Club member and Valley Farmer of the Year in 1997. Larry belonged to the Hallock Golf Club, the Hallock Curling Club and was honored as a CurlAmerica Instructor in 1992.

Family members include his loving wife, Rose; a daughter, Diane Younggren; two sons, Dan (Diane) Younggren and Darryl Younggren, all of Hallock; four grandchildren, Corey, Kailey, Connor and Blair; a sister, Marlyce (Philip) Peterson, Hallock; a sister-in-law, Janice Younggren; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Harley.

Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, January 9, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in First Presbyterian Church at Hallock. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Hallock. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. The Austin Funeral Home of Hallock is in charge of arrangements. www.austinfuneralchapel.com
