Rae Ann McGurran, 76, of Grand Forks, ND passed away peacefully Saturday, December 22, 2012 in Valley Eldercare Center with husband, children and grandchildren by her side.

Rae Ann McGurran, 76, of Grand Forks, ND passed away peacefully Saturday, December 22, 2012 in Valley Eldercare Center with husband, children and grandchildren by her side.

Rae Ann Newark was born May 10, 1936 in Grand Forks, ND the daughter of Sylvester and Mary (Armes) Newark She attended school in Grand Forks and graduated from St. James Academy in 1954. Prior to her marriage, she studied Medical Technology. Rae Ann was joined in marriage to J. Michael McGurran on February 1, 1958 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Grand Forks. Mike and Rae Ann had 9 children; all raised in Grand Forks. Rae Ann was a homemaker and a wonderful mother, who adored all children. She was very down to earth, generous with what she had and accepting of everyone. She also had a great sense of humor which made here fun to be around.

Rae Ann is survived by her husband of 53 years, J. Michael; sons, Tim (Laura) McGurran,Tom (Jean) McGurran, Kevin (Amy) McGurran, Joe (Fiancée, Laura Werre) McGurran, Richard (Rebecca) McGurran, all of Grand Forks, ND; daughters, Martha (Randy) Awes, Manvel, ND, Mary Grace (Jonathan) Dittmer, Huron, SD, Molly McGurran; Grand Forks, ND; 27 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother Douglas Hensrud; her beloved eldest daughter, Bridget Ann Hayes and a great-grandson, Xander Perales.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 28, 2012 in St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.

Visitation: 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday with a 6:30 p.m. rosary service and 7:00 p.m. vigil service in the Gregory J. Norman Funeral Chapel. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Friday.

Burial: Calvary Cemetery North, Grand Forks, ND, in the spring.

Mike and family--we send our prayers and thoughts for you. I was just thinking how I met Rita that falll before your wedding--Your family has always been dear to me.
