Olukayode S. Omotunde MD, age 68 of Park River, ND passed away on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at First Care Health Center of Park River.

Olukayode S. Omotunde was born June 18, 1944 in Ikun-Ekiti, Nigeria, the son of the late Joseph and Alice (Aina) Omotunde. He grew up and attended schools there. He graduated medical school from the University of Ibadan in Nigeria. He did his internship at Stamford Hospital in Connecticut, Residency at Tufts University in Boston and Stony Brook University in Northport. He did his residency in plastic surgery at the Albany Medical Center. Following his training he returned to Nigeria to be the Principal Medical Officer in Nigeria. Dr. Omotunde was united in marriage to Esther Arowobusoye on November 27, 1971 at Ilorin, Nigeria. The couple returned to the United States and he had a private practice in Orangeburg, SC. The couple moved to Park River in 1989 and he had the Doctor's Clinic in Park River and was affiliated with Unity Medical Center in Grafton. He joined First Care Health Center in Park River in 2006. Dr. Omotunde was currently building a clinic in Ikun-Ekiti, Nigeria.

He was a member of the American Medical Association, a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, a Fellow of American College of Surgeons, a Fellow of International College of Surgeons, a life member of the North Dakota Medical Association, he served as Director of the Walsh County EMS, served as Director of First Care Health Center and medical director of the Good Samaritan Center.

Dr. Omotunde is survived by his wife Esther of Park River, ND; children: Omolara Omotunde-Oniwe, New York City, NY; Fumihilayo Orenuga, Raleigh, NC; Nike Ojo, New York City, NY; Babajide Omotunde, Nigeria; Ayokunle Omotunde, Nigeria; Kemi Omotunde-Byam, New York City, NY; Fisayo Omotunde, Park River, ND; Ifedayo Omotunde, Park River, ND; several grandchildren, one great grandchild; brother Drs. Joshua and his wife Adeyinika Omotunde, Grafton, ND. Several nieces and nephews also survive him. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at the Park River High School Gymnasium. Friends may call at the school for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Ikun-Ekiti Nigeria. Memorials are suggested to the Sustainable Development for the Underprivileged Foundation at 116 Oakridge Place, P.O. Box 420, Park River, ND 58270.

I have known Dr. Omotunde for almost 3 decades having shared many patients over those years. I have nothing but respect for him as a person but especially as a very excellent physician. We will miss him greatly. My deepest sympathy to his family. James Lessard, MD
