Ruth Liedberg

Ruth Liedberg, 93, Goodridge, MN died Monday, December 10, 2012 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Ruth Elvine (Risteigen) Liedberg was born August 13, 1919, in Oak Park Township, the daughter of Thorsten and Thora Risteigen. Both her parents and grandparents were born in Norway. Her father was nine years old when he came over with his parents and her mother was 21 years old when she came with her mother and some of her siblings.

Ruth was baptized into the Lutheran faith in January 1920. In 1933, she was confirmed and, in 1944, she was married in the original Zion Church in Oslo, MN. Ruth graduated from Oslo High School in 1937 and from East Grand Forks Teacher Training Department in 1938. She taught for four years in rural schools in Marshall County and worked the next two years at the True Foods Dehydration Potato Plant and at Swimmasters, making life preservers.

She married Harry Liedberg of Goodridge, MN, November 25, 1944. Harry was the son of Carl and Alma Liedberg, who were born in Sweden and came to America the year they were married, in 1915.

Harry and Ruth operated a dairy farm with purebred Guernsey cattle. Harry passed away in February 1963.

In 1965, Ruth started working as a secretary for the Goodridge High School Principal and held that position for 18 years. She loved to travel, so she made numerous bus trips throughout the U.S. and Canada, and spent time in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Finland.

Ruth was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and Eve Circle. She enjoyed church and her women’s group. She enjoyed all kinds of handiwork, making many quilts, reading & crossword puzzles, until macular degeneration took most of her eyesight, causing her to give up many of the things she enjoyed doing and going to. Ruth enjoyed planting trees and Skipbo. Spending time at her lake cabin was really important to her.

Survived by daughters, Rosemary (Quentin) Pfutzenreuter, Elgin ND and Jane (Pete) Comstock, Roseau; son, Howard Liedberg, Goodridge; granddaughter, Olivia Comstock; great-grandson Tyler Kovarik and his father Michael Kovarik; brother Bobby (Peggy) Risteigen of Oslo, MN.

She is preceded in death by husband Harry in 1963; granddaughter Sondra Pfutzenreuter Kovarik in 1996 and sisters and brothers Gladys, Helen, Thelma, Alpha, Rueben Halvor and Norman.
