Robert D. “Bob” Hickerson, 88, of Heppner, Oregon formerly of Grand Forks, North Dakota died Thursday, December 6, 2012 at Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Heppner.
He was born December 12, 1923 at Bemidji, Minnesota, the son of George and Grace Olin Hickerson. Bob was raised in Bemidji, where he graduated from high school. He attended college for a time and then joined the United States Army and served in World War II in Italy and in the Korean Conflict, and also served stateside.
In 1948 he married Betty Ann Johnson at Grand Forks, North Dakota. The couple had two children, a daughter, Lee Ann in 1949, and a son, Russell in 1957.
Bob loved fishing, playing cards, bingo, reading and watching old western movies. He also loved to reminisce with friends.
He moved to Heppner in 2009 from Grand Forks, North Dakota. He loved living in Heppner and loved all the wonderful friendships he made. Bob will be remembered for his quick wit, sense of humor, and his love for family and friends.
Survivors include his daughter, Lee Ann Hickerson of Mound, Minnesota; son, Russell Hickerson and his wife Elizabeth of Heppner; grandchildren, Sarah Hickerson and Chris Hickerson both of Heppner.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Betty Ann and his siblings.
A memorial service with military honors will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, December 16, 2012 at St. Patrick’s Senior Center in Heppner.
