Donald J. Waxvik, 47, of Grand Forks, ND passed away peacefully Friday, November 23, 2012 in Altru Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Donald J. Waxvik, 47, of Grand Forks, ND passed away peacefully Friday, November 23, 2012 in Altru Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Donald James Waxvik was born October 10, 1965 in Grand Forks, ND the son of Donald and Alice (Garceau) Waxvik. He was baptized, made his first communion and was confirmed in St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Grand Forks. The biggest highlight of his life was on April 26, 1989 when his daughter, Amanda was born. Some of his favorite pastimes included, cooking for friends and family, working on and talking about cars with his uncle, Art, Spending time with his cats and most of all, taking long road trips with his good pal, Gene. He maintained that while working at Wal-Mart, he met some of his greatest friends and made some really great memories. Donald will always be remembered for his wild sense of humor. He was a loving and compassionate person and was always willing to lend someone a helping hand nor matter what the situation. He was always able to brighten someone’s day.

The family of Donald wishes to extend a special thank you to the employees of Wal-Mart in Grand Forks for being such wonderful friends to him and for showing so much love and support during his difficult journey. Your time and patience has made this journey much easier for both Donald and his family.

He is survived by his mother, Alice Waxvik; a daughter, Amanda Waxvik; a sister, Tina Kegler, all of Grand Forks, ND; special road tripping friend, Gene Johnson, Grand Forks, ND; many aunts, uncles and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Waxvik; a sister, Rose Marie Waxvik; maternal grandparents, Dewey and Rose Garceau, Sr.; paternal grandparents, George and Marie Waxvik; uncles, Richard Waxvik, David Waxvik; aunts, Carol McGeorge and Diane Terry.

Mass of Christian Burial: 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 30, 2012 in Holy Family Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.

Visitation: 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday with a 4:30 p.m. rosary service and 7:00 p.m. vigil service in the Historic Norman Funeral Home- Gregory J. Norman Funeral Chapel, 2950 South Washington Street. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Friday.

Burial: Calvary Cemetery North, Grand Forks, ND.
