Elwin Duane Moreland, 85, Grand Forks, died Saturday, November 24, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Elwin was born September 23, 1927 in Gilby, ND, the son of Harry and Margaret Viola (Fisher) Moreland. He attended school in rural Inkster before leaving to help on the family farm. He was drafted into the US Army where he served in WWII as a Technician. He was honorably discharged and then attended Hanson Auto School in Fargo.
He married Shirley Nelson on December 22, 1951 in Fargo. They lived in Moorhead, MN, Tioga, ND, Inkster, ND, before moving to Grand Forks in 1955, where they made their home and were blessed with 7 children.
Elwin worked for Sweeney’s Tractor Company in Fargo. In 1956 he went to work for the State Highway Department retiring in 1991, after 35 years.
His hobbies included camping, fishing with family and working on cars and antique tractors. He was a member of the American Legion and the Association for Public Employees.
Elwin is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Moreland, daughters, Marlys (Rodger) Anderson, Ellen (Chris) Schulz, Rebecca Moreland, Pamela Kvasager, sons, Marlin (Rita) Moreland, Kenneth (Pamela) Moreland, Dallas (Linda) Moreland, brother, Stanley (JoAnn) Moreland, sister, Margie (Donald) Wiester, brother-in-law, Wade Moffett, sister-in-law, LaVaugn Moreland, 16 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Duane, Melvin, and Russell Moreland, sister Verna Moffett, sister-in-laws, Janet Moreland, Maxine Langerud, brother-in-law, Duane Nelson, and nephews Kent Langerud, and Donald Moffett.
Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Forks.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 27, 2012 from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 in Amundson Funeral Home, and continuing 1 hour prior to the start of the service at the church.
