Thelma Mae “Tippie” Martin, 80, Grand Forks, ND died November 17, 2012 at Sanford Health System, Fargo, ND surrounded by her loving husband and family.

Thelma Mae Wilkerson was born May 1, 1932 the daughter of John and Opal (Hicks) Wilkerson in Cando, ND. She married Louis “Beaner” Martin on November 10, 1948 in Devils Lake, ND. They lived in Devils Lake while raising their children, and then moved to Grand Forks, ND.

Tippie and her dear friend Laura Azure shared a career as telephone operators and later she worked for the North Dakota Highway Department in Devils Lake. At the age of 52, she decided to go to school to become a nurse. She worked as a nurse for several years and after initially retiring, went to work for INMED at UND as first a dorm parent and later as Head of their Summer Institute. She loved her INMED kids and thoroughly enjoyed working with them.

She was always known as a person who gave everyone a chance and saw each person as an asset to this world. She was passionate about politics and worked at the election polls for five decades.

Thelma Mae is survived by her husband Louis; her children, Virginia (Frank) LeBlanc, Jackie (Ron) Rovenko, Nancy Martin and Steve (Arzu) Martin; her grandchildren, K. Brett Frith, Jon Hunt, Jennifer Rovenko, Charisse Pulkrabek, Jocelyn Darr, Sarah Rovenko, Emily Richner, Alexia Glassco, Molly Rovenko, Erin Martin, Can Gurpinar; her great grandchildren, Ashton Frith, Nadija Hunt, Cole Pulkrabek, Blake Frith, Xander Riely, Gavin Darr, Maya Pulkrabek and Alex Frith; sisters Delores (Eileen) Frith, Judy Elgean, and Bonnie Ableman; and a brother Tim Bartlett.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Opal Bartlett; a son, Robert “Bob” Martin; her father, John “Jack” Wilkerson; 5 brothers and 3 sisters.

Memorial Liturgy: 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 23, 2012 at The Historic Norman Funeral Home - Gregory Norman Funeral Chapel, 2950 S. Washington St., Grand Forks, ND.

Family Greeting: One hour before the liturgy in the chapel on Friday.

Interment: 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 24, 2012 in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Devils Lake, ND.
