Irene Grandstrand, 90, died Thursday November 15, 2012 at Sanford Hospital, Fargo, ND.
Irene Eleanor Lindstrom Grandstrand was born on November 19, 1921 Wright Township, rural Strandquist, MN, the daughter of John and Dora (Severson) Lindstrom. She attended grade school and high school in Strandquist, MN. Irene was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith.
On December 31, 1940, Irene was united in marriage to Melvin A. Grandstrand at the Viking Mission Covenant Church Parsonage in Viking, MN by Pastor Samuel T. Berg. Following their marriage they lived for a short time in the Halma, MN, area - later moving to Augsburg Township in Marshall County where they farmed until 1948. In November of 1948 they purchased a farm at Viking, MN where Irene lived up until the time of her death. Irene was involved in every aspect of their farm. Melvin passed away on January 22, 2008.
Irene will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother. The time spent with her family and the meals she prepared will never be forgotten.
Irene is survived by her children, Barb (Ward) Sinn of Thief River Falls, MN, Rodney (Carolyn) Grandstrand of Maple Plain, MN, and Keith Grandstrand of Coon Rapids, MN; grandchildren, Angela (Jim) Hoglo, Stacey Berberich, Cheri (Wayne) Morris, Valerie (Gary) Enfield, Brenda (Jim) Theishafer, Brian (Patty) Grandstrand, Bradley (Tammy) Grandstrand, Corey (Tracey) Grandstrand, Jeremy (Brenda) Grandstrand, Jason Grandstrand , Earl Grandstrand, and Dean (Patti) Grandstrand; 28 great-grandchildren; 5 great great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; son, Roy; sister, Grace Lundin, brothers, Glen, Alton, and Herman.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, November 19, 2012 at Zion Lutheran Church in Viking, MN with Rev. Mary Lundquist officiating. Burial will follow at the Viking Cemetery in Viking, MN.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM with a 5:00 PM prayer service on Sunday, November 18, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM on Monday at the church.
