Russell L. Michaels
Russell L. Michaels, 77, of Leeds, ND, died Monday, November 12, 2012 at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake.
Russell Lynn Michaels was born October 3, 1935 at Mandan, ND, to Oscar and Louise (Ritteman) Michaels. He was raised in Judson, ND. At the age of twelve, the family moved to the Churchs Ferry, ND area. Russell graduated from the Churchs Ferry High School in 1953, worked for his uncle for at time and later drove semi for Sweetheart Bread. Russell married Doris Else on August 1, 1959 at the Hurricane Lake Lutheran Church rural York, ND. The couple lived in Devils Lake for a year then moved to the family farm in Irvine Township rural Leeds, ND. After retirement, Russell still assisted with the operation of his farm.
Russell was baptized at Judson, ND. He was a member and served on the board of Zion Lutheran Church in Churchs Ferry until its closure and had recently become a member of Leeds Lutheran Church. Russell has served on the Irvine Township board since 1974 and was a life member of the Devils Lake Elks. He enjoyed carpentry, playing solitaire and his cats.
Surviving are his wife: Doris of Leeds; a daughter: Jessica (Glen Woodard) Michaels of Grand Forks and two grandchildren: Marcus and Jacob Woodard.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister: Ann Fox.
Funeral services: will be Thursday, November 15, 2012, 11:00 AM at Leeds Lutheran Church.
Burial: Churchs Ferry Cemetery, at Churchs Ferry, ND.
Visitation: At the church an hour before the service.
