Irvin LeRoy Chambers, age 83, of Larimore, ND, passed away on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Irvin Chambers was born October 25, 1929 at Lakota, ND, the son of Elmer and Helen (Hoynes) Chambers. He was raised and grew to manhood at Niagara, ND. He attended and graduated from Niagara High School as an honor student. In 1948 he started working for the Great Northern Railroad on track maintenance. Irvin was inducted into the United States Army in 1951 and served in France where he drove amphibious vehicles. He received his Honorable Discharge in 1953. After his discharge he worked for the Great Northern and retired after 42 years in 1991 from Burlington Northern where he worked track maintenance.
Irvin married Cleo Christiansen on January 14, 1951 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Larimore. They lived in Niagara until moving to Larimore in 1958, where they have lived since.
Surviving members of his family include his wife: Cleo; sons: Daniel Chambers, Grand Forks; Randy Chambers, Molt, MT and Larry Chambers, Ft. Collins, CO; daughter: Wendy (Ron) Kerbaugh, Tioga, ND; 4 grandchildren: Christopher Chambers, Jacqueline Chambers, Katelyn Kerbaugh, and Cameron Kerbaugh; 2 great grandchildren: Asia and Hannah Chambers.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother: Gerald.
MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: 10 a.m. Saturday, November 3, 2012 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Larimore.
VISITATION: 5–7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. Prayer service on Friday, November 2 in the Bakke Funeral Home of Larimore. Visitation will also be in the church for one hour prior to the Funeral Mass on Saturday.
RITE OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: Bellevue Cemetery, Larimore.
MILITARY HONORS: Ted Valerius Post No. 97 of the Larimore American Legion.
