Sonja Fuglesten Darling
Sonja, of Point Richmond, CA, passed away September 1, 2012 at UCSF Medical Center in San Francisco.
Sonja was born January, 1940, in Spokane, WA, to John and Emma Fuglesten. She was raised in Buxton, ND. Sonja attended UND in Grand Forks. There, she met and married Joseph Darling of Cavalier ND, in April, 1962. Shortly thereafter they moved to Point Richmond, CA, where they created a home, a community, a life and raised a family. Sonja was an active, lively and energetic woman who truly enjoyed her life and most especially the people in it. Just one of many affiliations, interests and activities included being an active member of the Sons of Norway, which she joined in 1969. She also studied the Norwegian language, culture and her ancestry. Sonja loved children (and they loved her) and was a Mom to anyone in need of one. Though weakened by her failing heart, Sonja’s unrelenting spirit was fueled by the love of--and dedication to--her five grandchildren, they truly were what sustained her heart and soul.
She was a young 72. Sonja is survived by her husband Joseph; her daughters Christine and Kelly, their husbands and her 5 grandchildren; also by her mother, Emma Fuglesten; her siblings, Judy, Carole, John, Glen, Gene, Gary and Robert; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and in-laws.
A memorial service to celebrate Sonja’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on September 22, 2012, at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in San Rafael, CA.
