As a young man, Kris did various construction jobs in the Edinburg, Langdon and Park River areas including Halls Potato House, and helped various farmers in the Milton and Langdon areas including Dave McKay.
Kris served in the US Army from 1952 to 1954 with 18 months duty in Korea. Upon his return to the states he moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota and went to work for Federal Stamping/Dayton Rodgers, a small parts manufacturing company. He was a "company man", working for the same company for 48 years. He was a hard worker, helped manage the place and was a small parts inspector.
After marrying Dorothy Einarson from Gardar, North Dakota, in 1960, he was transferred to Los Angeles California. Kris and Dorothy bought a house just outside of Los Angeles where they raised their 3 children, Michael, Daniel, and Sheri. Kris enjoyed activities with his family including camping, fishing, Indian Guides, riding motorcycles in the desert, watching the Space Shuttle land at Edward's Air Force Base and summer visits back to Good Old North Dakota to see cherished family and friends.
Kris retired in 2003 at which time he enjoyed caring for his yard, playing bubbles and rollie ball on the front porch with his grandchildren (Kristjana, Tyler and Brynja, of Sheri Peterson-Maxwell and Sean Maxwell) and keeping up with various local organizations.
Kris was preceded in death by his mothers Kristin and Anna Peterson; father Haraldur Helgi Peterson; sister Ragnhildur Peterson and brother Einar Peterson.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy Peterson; 3 children, Michael Peterson, Daniel Peterson and Sheri Maxwell; 3 grandchildren, Kristjana Maxwell, Tyler Maxwell and Brynja Maxwell; his sister Kristine Koehmsteadt and brother Bernard Peterson.
