Robert Herron Wood, Jr., 46, of Grand Forks, ND, died Aug. 1, 2012 in Grand Forks.
Robert was born on October 25, 1965, the son of Robert H. and Kathleen M. (McFarland) Wood in Binghamton, NY. An Army brat, he attended school in a number of states and in West Berlin, Germany, graduating from Robert E. Lee High School in Springfield, VA, in 1983. He served five years in the U.S. Air Force, in Texas, Maryland and South Korea. Robert joined the U.S. Marshals Service in 1990, serving first at the District of Columbia Superior Court in Washington DC. In 1994, he transferred to the District of North Dakota, Grand Forks office of the Marshals Service. As a Deputy Marshal, he pursued federal fugitives, protected courtrooms, witnesses and judges and specialized in tracking and apprehending sexual predators.
Outside of work, Robert loved building computers, “sub-zero grilling” during North Dakota winters and home-brewing. He was a Tennessee Squire, a fan of Pink Floyd, Mel Brooks, Ray Bradbury and Isaac Asimov, and was a lifelong fan of the Atlanta Falcons. Robert enjoyed history, particularly the history of the Marshal Service. He was a proud alumnus of Berlin American High School. Robert was devoted to his family and was a loyal friend. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church.
Robert is survived by his wife of 24 years, Charlotte Venita (Redd) Wood of Grand Forks; his sons, Nicholas Z. (Brittany) Wood of St. Paul, MN, and William C. Wood and Benjamin R. Wood, both of Grand Forks; parents, Robert H. and Kathleen M. Wood of Fort Collins, CO; sisters, Suzanne (Mike) Koziatek of Belleville, IL and Elizabeth K. Wood of Metuchen, NJ; nephews, Evan C. Redd of Bridgeport, AL and Michael H. Koziatek of Belleville, IL; nieces, Shanay D. Redd and Kiana Redd both of Chattanooga, TN, Julia H. Koziatek of Belleville, IL and many friends across the country, particularly in law enforcement.
Funeral Service: Will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, at Grace Baptist Church, 700 24th Avenue South, with the Rev. Ray Russell officiating.
Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
Military Honors: Members of the Grand Forks Air Force Base Honor Guard, United States Border Patrol and the Grand Forks Police Department.
