Mary Margaret Klinicke, 73, of Grand Forks, ND passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at 4000 Valley Square in Grand Forks after succumbing to cancer.
Mary Margaret Gibbs was born February 26, 1939, in Grand Forks, the daughter of James and Rose (Lentsch) Gibbs. Mary was the only child but her childhood was filled with family and friends. Mary attended St. Michael's Elementary and then graduated from St. James Catholic High School in 1957. Since Mary was 4 years old she had always wanted to be a nurse so in 1957 she enrolled and then graduated in 1960 from St. Joseph's School of Nursing. It was at this time that she met her husband to be at a UND Newman Center dance where Mary asked Hilary to dance. Mary wed Hilary Klinicke on September 8, 1962 in St. Michael's Catholic Church. In 1965, while living in North Carolina, Mary gave birth to her first son James Gibbs. In 1970, after moving to Superior WI Mary gave birth to Julie Ann, then again after moving back to Grand Forks, gave birth to her second son Jon Brian in 1973. In 1977, Mary went back to school for her Bachelors in Nursing and graduated in 1990 from the University of North Dakota. In 1987, Mary and Hilary purchased Plaza Jewelers in Grand Forks were Mary was the owner/manager until the stores closing in 2010. It was during this time that Mary used all of her God given talents to affect the lives of so many people. During her life, Mary gave back to the community as a nurse, volunteering her time at St. Anne's and at St. Michael's as a member of Bridge builders. Mary kept her strong Catholic faith through her entire life and was blessed by God with an abundance of passion for people. Mary was appreciative and loved all the doctors, nurses and care givers that helped her and her family through this time of her life. With special and deepest appreciation and love to the tremendous staff at 4000 Valley Square.
