Bonita Louise Thompson, age 66, of Grand Forks, ND passed away on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Altru Hospital following a brief battle with recurrent cancer.

Bonita Louise Thompson, age 66, of Grand Forks, ND passed away on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Altru Hospital following a brief battle with recurrent cancer.

Bonnie was born April 16, 1946 the daughter of Robert and Ella (Henry) Fortin in Grand Forks. She was raised on the family farm in rural Grand Forks. She attended grade school in Merrifield, ND and graduated from St. James High School in 1964. Bonnie married Dennis Thompson in 1966 in Grand Forks. After a brief stint in Minneapolis, MN Bonnie and Dennis returned to Grand Forks to raise their three children. Following her first career as a homemaker, Bonnie returned to full-time work and also school, completing her Bachelor of Arts at the University of North Dakota in 2000. Bonnie greatly enjoyed her jobs at the Career Services and Rural Medicine Departments of UND until 2005. For the past six years, Bonnie had the unique opportunity to work with her son, Joff, at Valley Bone & Joint Clinic in Grand Forks.

Bonnie loved quilting, gardening and spending time with family, especially her grandkids. She loved holidays and spending weekends at the lake where she was waterskiing up until a few years ago. She enjoyed talking with co-workers, neighbors and just about anyone willing to chat. Some of her closest friendships dated back more than 50 years.

Bonnie was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church while the kids were in school. She has been a member of St. Michael's Church for the past 15 years.

Bonnie is survived by her mother Ella K. Fortin of Grand Forks; sons, Robert (Katherine) Thompson of St. Paul, MN, Dr. Joffrey (Maria) Thompson of Grand Forks and a daughter, Kimberley (Cameron) Snyder of Minneapolis, MN; grandchildren, Andrew, Annika, Luke & Noah Thompson of Grand Forks, ND and Logan & Brennan Snyder of Minneapolis, MN; a brother, Gerald (Geraldine) Fortin of rural Grand Forks, ND; sisters Nadine Dulacki of Huddleston, VA, Marilyn (Michael) Webb of Colonial Heights, VA, Janelle (Robert) Klave of Grand Forks, ND; many nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins and in-laws.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her father, Robert Fortin of rural Grand Forks.

Memorial Mass: 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 20, 2012 in St. Michael's Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.

Family Greeting: 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday with a 7:00 p.m. vigil service in Norman Funeral Home, Grand Forks. Greeting will continue for one hour before the Mass at the church on Friday.

Interment: Calvary Cemetery North, Grand Forks, ND.
