Pearl McFarland, 91, of Drayton, ND passed away at her home on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 under the care of Grafton Altru Hospice.

She was born on Sept 22, 1920, in Chamberlain, SD, to Gilbert and Violet Landis, the youngest of three children. Pearl and Loren R. McFarland were married on May 4, 1938, at her parents' farm. They had two children: Dennis Robert in 1938 and Joyce Violet in 1944.

Loren and Pearl lived in Seattle during World War II, where Loren worked at Boeing Aircraft. They moved to Drayton in 1944 and purchased land west of town.

Pearl was an active member of the Drayton United Methodist Church and belonged to Sunnyside Homemakers, the Rosebank Rebekah Lodge in Drayton, Farmers Union and was a 4-H leader.

She became president of the Rebekah Assembly of ND in 1966 and traveled throughout the US and Canada performing her duties.

Pearl was a true partner in the McFarland farming operation. She drove combines, sugar-beet trucks and helped with haying for their cattle. She also raised lambs, pigs and geese early in her marriage.

Pearl is survived by her daughter, Joyce V. McFarland, of Drayton and Arizona and a daughter-in-law, Lorna McFarland, of Drayton. Other survivors are her seven grandchildren: Melanie McFarland, of Red Lake Falls, MN, Crystal (Todd) Beckman, of Sioux Falls, SD, Nathanial (Angelique) Hilton, of Twin Valley, MN, Shaun (Lisa) McFarland, of Wilmar, MN, Janelle Pearl Violet Hilton, of Laguna Beach, CA, Mathew Joe Hilton and Karen, of Drayton and Tyler (Christie) McFarland, of Grand Forks. Surviving great-grandchildren are: Ellie, Mollie, Cody, Montanna, Reilly and Asher Dennis. Great-step-grandchildren are: Tim, Cody, Trysta, Tiara and Robert.

She was preceded in death by her husband, who died on Sept. 8, 2011; her beloved son Dennis, on Sept. 5, 1996; her parents; a brother, Henry Landis; a son-in-law, Roger Hilton and Loren's parents and siblings.

Funeral services for Pearl Violet McFarland, 91, will be at 11 am Saturday, June 16, at the Drayton United Methodist Church.

Interment will be in the Drayton City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the Austin Funeral Home in Drayton from 6 pm to 8 pm Friday, June 15, with a prayer service at 7 pm.
