Kenneth A. Roeder, 86, of Thompson, ND was a very gentle man who passed away peacefully Friday, May 18, 2012, at the Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND.

Kenneth A. Roeder, 86, of Thompson, ND was a very gentle man who passed away peacefully Friday, May 18, 2012, at the Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND.

Ken was born October, 28, 1925 in rural Thompson, ND to Alvin and Elvira (Sprunk) Roeder. He grew up in the Holmes Community and attended rural school at Union Township. After school, he farmed and raised dairy cattle with his brothers near Thompson. On August 1, 1974, he married Carolyn Yaeger in Fargo, ND. Ken was an avid softball player who coached the Holmes Softball Team for over 50 years and was inducted into the North Dakota Softball Hall of Fame in 1998. Ken was featured in the book Hometown Heroes. He also loved bowling. He served on the Union Township board for over 30 years, and was also presented the community spirit award and the Holmes Community Award.

Ken is survived by his wife: Carolyn; stepson, Michael (Peggy) Yaeger and their children Alice (10) and Andrew (7), Atlanta, GA, stepdaughter, Mary Yaeger, Grand Forks, ND; brother, Norman (Jean) Roeder, rural Thompson.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Myron.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, May 25, 2012 at 10:30am at Holmes United Methodist Church, rural Reynolds, ND.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 24th, from 5:00-7:00 with a 7:00pm prayer service at the Bilden Funeral Home in Northwood, ND.

Memorials are to be sent to the Holmes United Methodist Church in rural Reynolds, ND, Circle of Friends Humane Society or the Thompson, ND Fire and Rescue Squad.
