Carol Hagen, age 78, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Monday (May 14th) at First Care Living Center in Fosston.

Carol Ann Hoper was born on October 19, 1933 on the home farm near Stephen, MN to parents William and Myrtle (Britten) Hoper. She grew up near Stephen, attended Happy Corner country school and graduated from Stephen High School. Carol then attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN, graduating with a degree in home economics in 1955. In the fall of that year she moved to Fosston, MN where she was hired as the home economics teacher.

Carol was united in marriage to Alvin "Daisy" Hagen on August 18, 1956 at St. Petri Lutheran Church in Stephen. After their marriage, they made their home and raised their family in Fosston. Together they owned and operated Daisy's Motel and Drive Inn. In 1962, the drive inn became known as the Dairy Queen. They operated the motel and Dairy Queen until their retirement. Carol also had worked at the Polk County Extension Office in McIntosh for several years.

Throughout the years, Carol was very active in her church and community. She was a dedicated servant and member of her church, Hope Lutheran. She held several offices at Hope, including President of the congregation, Superintendent of Sunday School, Friday School and Vacation Bible School, and was active in Circle and other groups and committees within the church. She was a member of the Athenian Club of Fosston for several years (Past President), and served as a dedicated volunteer on the East Polk Heritage Center Board and the Fosston Library Arts Board.

Carol greatly enjoyed sewing, quilting at church and with the McIntosh quilting club while sharing her time and talents with her family and community. In addition, she enjoyed reading, sharing stories with her family and grandchildren, paddle boating, cross country skiing, the outdoors and crossword puzzles. Most of all she enjoyed being with her family.

Carol is survived by six children and 13 grandchildren, Mark (Barb) of Fosston and their children, Camille and Shelby, Mitch (Becky) of Prior Lake, MN and their children, Nathaniel, Zachary and Samuel, Marshall (Judy) of Fayetteville, NC and their children, Joshua and Jessie, Heather (Len) Archer of Milford, MA and their children, Taylor and Christian, Matthew (Naomi) of Fosston and their children, Ashley, Devin, Jacqueline and Alexander and Christopher (fiancé Bambi Ness) of Fosston.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Daisy, on June 10, 2007; parents; brother, John Hoper and sister, Phyllis Fisher.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday (May 18th) at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Paul Magelssen officiating.

Interment will be in Hope Lutheran Cemetery, Fosston.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Thursday (May 17th) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
