Larry Jensen, 73, a lifelong Drayton area farmer passed away at his home on Thursday, May 10th, 2012.
Larry Duane Jensen was born June 14, 1938, in Drayton to Harry and Amelia (Hanson) Jensen. He attended Teien Township Country School and was a 1956 graduate of Kennedy High School. Larry served with the National Guard for seven years. On November 28, 1964, he married the love of his life Shirley Holman in Hutchinson, Minn. They lived on their Glendale Farm in Teien Township until 1971 when they moved to the Jensen home place, Oakdale Farm. Larry was a people person and was always a champion of the “underdog”. He had a joke and a smile for whomever crossed his path. His family, friends and farming were the most important things in his life. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, garage sales, bartering for a better deal, talking on his cell phone, watching CNN, and listening to “Tradio” and Frank Sinatra songs in his beloved pick up. Some of his favorite times were sitting around the kitchen table with family and friends singing and telling stories. He was a father figure to numerous people throughout his entire life. Larry was a life long member of Skjeberg Lutheran Church and served on the church council.
Family members include his wife, Shirley; sons, Michael (Jackie) Jensen, Drayton, and Gary (Kari Jo) Jensen, Drayton; a daughter, Christine (Tracy Giles) Jensen, Drayton; four grandchildren, Katie, Mitchell, Trapper and Hawken; two sisters, Erma Raney, Drayton, and Harriet Johnson, Grafton; as well as nieces and nephews; and special friends, his dogs, Sammy and Harley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Clarence and Ethel Holman; brothers-in-law, Clarence “Butch” Holman, Harris Johnson, Harland Hedman, Bob Raney; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Holman Field.
