Ernest (Ernie) Lee Strait, 81, Bismarck, died March 19, 2012 in a Bismarck hospital.

Ernie was born June 23, 1930 in Grand Forks, ND, to Paul and Lillian (Brouse) Strait. He attended school in Rolla and graduated from Rolla High School in 1949. He served in the United States Marine Corp from November 1951 until November 1953 receiving his Honorable Discharge in 1959 after 2 years active duty and 6 yrs in the reserves. He proudly served and as he would tell you "once a Marine, always a Marine."

He was a member of the American Legion Post 235 Rolla, ND, recently receiving his 60-year Certificate of Continuous Membership.

Ernie married Patricia (Pat) Wayne August 19, 1956. They lived in Rolla, moving to Bismarck, ND in 2004. Ernie worked for Otter Tail Power Company for three years and at the IHS Hospital in Belcourt, ND retiring in 1981 after 27 years of service.

Ernie enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and was very proud of all of them. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, story and joke telling. No one was a stranger to him for very long as he enjoyed visiting with everyone.

Survived by his wife of 55 years, Pat; daughters, Leana (Jeff) Hilde Trivoli, IL and Diana (Don) James Bismarck; son, Darryl (Kate) Strait, Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Erin (Jamey) Hilde Gorsuch, Ryan Hilde, Jacob Hilde, Justin (Julie) James, Samantha (Shane) James Victor, Jessica Strait, Josh Strait and Kylee (Jerick) Strait Lacson; great-grandchildren, Eiley James and Connor James; sister, Donna Bard and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son Steve Strait; brother Jim Strait and his grandparents.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday at Rolla Presbyterian Church with Rev. Trudy Dumont officiating.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial will be in Rolla Cemetery.
