Barbara J. Spillum passed away March 13, 2012, at Marshall Hospital in Placerville, Calif., with her daughter Ida at her side.
She was born Oct. 4, 1917, in Buxton, N.D. She was the daughter of Samson and Ida Nesvig. She married Walter D. Spillum on Dec. 5, 1939, in Crookston, Minn. She was a homemaker most of her life and made her home with her husband in Crookston until 1943, when they moved to Grand Forks, N.D. This was her home until 2001, when she moved to California to be with her daughter and son-in-law, John and Ida Brady in Vacaville. In 2003, Barbara moved to Pollock Pines, Calif., with John and Ida.
Barbara will be missed by all she knew throughout her life and we were truly blessed to have had her in our lives. Barbara was a kind, supporting and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She loved her crocheting, reading and puzzles and kept herself busy in her later life.
She is survived by her daughter, Ida (John) Brady, of Pollock Pines; daughter-in-law, Jackie Spillum of Huron, S.D.; grandchildren, Kenneth (Sharon) Wold of Orangevale, Calif., Traci (Terrill) Pedretti of El Dorado, Calif., Kristine (Wilbur) Layman of Placerville, Calif., Nathan (April) Wold of Vacaville, Stephanie (Dan) Wood of Sioux Falls, S.D., Heidi (Sergio) Vazquez of Highland, Calif., and Wendy (Shane) Talbott of Queen Creek, Ariz.; great-grandchildren, Denay (Jay) Hornberger of Orangevale, Mitchell Wold of New York City, Nicholas, Sara, Amy and Joel Pedretti of El Dorado, Kassidy Wold-Castro of Placerville, and Nathan, Jr. and Ashlyn Wold of Vacaville, Caden and Devin Wood of Sioux Falls, SD, Matthew Gussiaas and Isabela Vazquez of Highland, Kylie Talbott of Queen Creek; and her great-great-grandson, Colton Hornberger of Orangevale. She also leaves several nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Ruby Nesvig of Buxton, N.D. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; son, Bruce; brother, Jerome Nesvig; and sister, Irene Sondreal.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Barbara's life at a later date. Burial will be at Ringsaker Lutheran Church Cemetery in Buxton, N.D., in the family plot.
