Fern Sweeney, age 93, of Larimore, ND, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.

Fern was born June 27, 1918 at Larimore, the daughter of Charles and Hattie (Berggren) Swanson. She was raised and grew to womanhood at Larimore, and attended and graduated from Larimore High School. Fern received Holy Baptism and confirmed her Christian faith at Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Fern married Russell Sweeney October 24, 1942 in Washington State. After Russell's Army discharge, they lived and farmed in the Kempton, ND, area until moving to their present farm home in Elm Grove Township, near Larimore, in 1952.

Fern was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and was a member of Ruth Circle. She was a lifetime member of the Larimore American Legion Auxiliary.

Spending time with her family was very important to her. She loved watching sports on TV and was an avid supporter of the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. She loved bowling, playing cards, fishing and gardening.

Surviving members of her family include her daughter: Jane (Ron) Carlson, Larimore; sons: Charles Sweeney, Larimore and Rodney (Patricia) Sweeney, Pilot Grove, MO; daughter-in-law: Vicky Sweeney, Larimore; 8 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sisters: Gladys McDonald, Northwood, ND and Thelma Rortvedt, Federal Way, WA; several nieces and nephews and her loving cat: Molly.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son: Dennis; sisters: Freda Gratton and Dorothy Marien and brothers: Carl and Floyd.

FUNERAL SERVICES: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Larimore.

INTERMENT: Bellevue Cemetery, Larimore.

VISITATION: Friday, February 3 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. with a 6 p.m. prayer service held in the Bakke Funeral Home of Larimore. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral in the church Saturday.

To Ferns family, We were sorry to read about Fern yesterday. We did have some good times and lots of laughs during all those bowling tourneys. We will be thinking of you all and wishing you peace. Joe and Evie Hofer
